The Dock Rocks

Talk about user friendly…

Compiz Fusion

Open a whole new world of cool effects. Once Hardy Heron has been setup, open a new terminal window and type

sudo apt-get install compizconfig-settings-manager

When finished, you’ll have a new option under System – Preferences called Advanced Desktop Effects. Here you can tweak the animations for individual window effects as well as enable new features. Below are some of the animations and effects that I have enabled for my Linux box.

Wobbly Windows ( Just drag any window )

The Ring Changer ( *Super + Tab )

*Super = Windows Key

3D Cube Switch ( Control + Alt + Click and hold left mouse + drag to the left/right )

3D Cube Switch ( Control + Alt + Click and hold left mouse + drag to the left/right )

Alt + Tab

Desktop Zooming ( Super + Mouse scroll button up/down )

Cube Unfolded ( Control + Alt + Down Arrow Key )

View Desktops ( Super + E )

Paint Fire ( Super + Shift + Press left mouse button and move around )

To clear ( Super + Shift + C )

This is not a screen saver. The Ubuntu Dekstop is still running and I can still use it…

A BLACK GOOGLE ? WHY ?

URL: www.blackle.com

I thought this was a real creative and cool way to help earth.

“Image displayed is primarily a function of the user’s color settings and desktop graphics, as well as the color and size of open application windows; a given monitor requires more power to display a white (or light) screen than a black (or dark) screen.” Roberson et al, 2002

Blackle was introduced based on the study above. Very innovative.

Jailbreak (computer science) is defined as :

breaking out of a chroot jail in UNIX or, more recently, bypassing DRM and running custom code.

There is an iPhone mania going around the world. Everyone craves for it. Its simply irresistible.

The phone is not launched in many countries yet. But that shouldn’t deter a tech freak. :)

So what to do ?

Jailbreak !

Unlocking phones are no big deal nowdays…as Zibri ( http://www.ziphone.org/ ) says ‘ even a caveman can do it ‘ :)

Special thanks to them ( Zibri and all those who contibute to Jailbreaking ), they make technology available to all.

In some 3rd world countries, prices of phones are marked up by XX% in comparison with the US prices.

I mean, the duty is fine, but sometimes, the profit margin for new gadgets are kinda high.

So if you can get an iPhone from US for a reasonable price , you need not worry about the ‘lock’. All you need is:

1) ZiPhone Win 3.0

2) iTunes 7

3) dotnexfx ( Windows based PCs )

All 3 can be downloaded here:
